Baptisms at St Nicholas' Church
After a lot of detailed work, a list of all the baptisms in St Nicholas' church has now been transcribed from the original church register starting in 1854. The spreadsheet will be of great help to those researching their ancestors from both Husthwaite and Carlton Husthwaite. Apart from the names of the parents, child and person performing the ceremony, after 1873, the date of birth was recorded in addition to the date of baptism. The father's occupation and, after 1990, the occupation of the mother are also included. Addresses are also given in more detail after about 1955. These records provide an interesting insight into changing professions and size of family.
Following advice for the Diocese and the Borthwick Institute we are able to publish on-line any records up until 100 years ago. This file may be downloaded here
For baptisms and births after 1913, more limited information is available to up to 30 years ago from family history websites such as www.thegenealogist.co.uk.
